Pakse is the place to stay when you want to visit the Bolaven Plateau. The Bolaven Plateau is is an area about an hour of two from Pakse and known for all the waterfalls, the cool climate and the coffeeplantations.
Personally I did not like Pakse very much. I think that was because our hotel was far outside of the city center. After visiting a few of the waterfalls at the Bolaven Plateau (with a private tuctuc, because there was no grouptour that day), which were amazing and totally worth it, we quickly took the nightbus to Vientiane.
Pakse is de plek om te verblijven als je het Bolaven Plateau wil bezoeken. Het Bolaven Plateau ligt op een a twee uur rijden van Pakse en staat bekend om de watervallen, het koele klimaat en de koffieplantages.
Persoonlijk vond ik Pakse geen fijne stad. Ik denk dat het lag het aan het feit dat ons hotel ver buiten het centrum lag. Nadat wij een paar watervallen op Bolaven Plateau hadden bezocht (met een prive tuktuk, omdat er geen groepstour was die dag), die echt prachtig waren, namen wij direct de nachtbus naar Vientiane.
SIGHTS/ ZIEN
Blacksmith
My friend Maxime and I went on a morningtour with a private tuctuc driver. Our first stop was a blacksmith. Here they showed us how they make their own tools! It was very interesting to see.
Maxime en ik hadden een ochtendtour met privé tuktuk geboekt. Onze eerste stop was een ijzersmit. Zij lieten zien hoe zij hun eigen gereedschappen maken. Dat was erg interessant om te zien.
Tad Gneuang
The first waterfall we visited was Tad Gneuang. This was actually the first waterfall I have ever seen and it was exactly how I had expected a waterfall; green surroundings, a high and very strong stream. What an amazing sight!
De eerste waterval die wij bezochten van Tad Gneuang. Het was de eerste waterval die ik ooit in het echt heb gezien en het was precies hoe ik mij een waterval had voorgesteld; groene bebossing, een hoog en een erg sterke waterstroom. Wat een mooi gezicht!
Coffee and Tea plantation
Near the Tad Gneuang waterfall is a small coffee and tea plantation. You can walk around, see the proces and buy some coffee or tea.
Vlakbij de Tad Gneuang waterval is een kleine koffie en thee plantage. Je kan daar rondlopen, het proces zien en wat koffie of thee kopen.
Tad Fane
Tad Fane was the second waterfall we visited. This is an incredible high waterfall and looked very intimidating. The people on the right photo were on top of the left stream…how dangerous it that!
Tad Fane was de tweede waterval die wij bezochten. Het is een enorm hoge waterval en zag er erg indrukwekkend uit. De mensen op de rechterfoto stonden bovenaan de linker stroom…hoe gevaarlijk is dat!
Tham Champy
The third and last waterfall we saw was Tham Champy. This was also a very beautiful waterfall. It has three streams, a ‘quiet’ pond and looked very serene.
We were happy that we got to see three very different waterfalls. The guy from the travelagency (Miss Noy) had made a good selection for us. Since there are a lot of waterfalls on the Bolaven Plateau it is difficult to chose which ones you want to see.
De derde en laatste waterval die wij zagen was Tham Champy. Dit was ook een prachtige waterval. Deze had drie stromen, een rustige vijver en zag er erg sereen uit.
Wij waren blij dat wij drie hele verschillende watervallen hebben gezien. De man van het reisbureautje (Miss Noy) heeft een goede selectie voor ons gemaakt. Omdat er erg veel watervallen op het Bolaven Plateau zijn, kan het moeilijk zijn om een selectie te maken.
FOOD/ ETEN & HOSTEL/SLAPEN
The hotel we booked online was far outside the city, which was very annoying. We did not enjoy it and only stayed there for one night. Also the food in Pakse was nothing special.
Het hotel dat wij online hadden geboekt lag ver buiten de stad en dat was erg vervelend. Daarom hebben we er maar een nacht geslapen. Ook het eten in Pakse is niet bijzonder.
